My approach

I take an Integrative approach to counselling.  My core training is Humanistic, however I integrate other perspectives and techniques in order to meet individual needs.  I base my approach on the Person-Centred principle – that individuals have potential for growth and self-awareness.  I am a trained and accredited member of EMDR UK and Ireland. which is treatment for trauma and complex traumas.

My therapeutic philosophy is influenced by Existential thinking; making meaning from our individuality, our strengths, opportunities and limitations.  I have a special interest in Mindfulness Based Body/Mind work, which I integrate in my practice.

I aim to help clients access their own resources to deal with life’s challenges.  Some aspects cannot be changed, but by working together, we can gain new understanding and insight into past experiences, in order to make different choices for the future.

My Experience

I have worked with people who have experienced the following issues:

Loss, bereavement, stress, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, ill health, chronic long-term conditions, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, personal growth and identity issues.  I have worked for a range of local services, including Bereavement and Young Persons Counselling service and the Alcohol Agency.  I have completed a attachment narrative training and use this to work with attachment traumas.

The client’s best interests at the heart of my practice.  If I believe that another service or agency would be more appropriate, this will be discussed in the assessment appointment.
